Interview with Gurban Abbasli

Gurban Abbasli is an electronic music producer , DJ from Azerbaijan. He was born in the town of Shaki, whose amazing mountains, nature landscapes, and ancient history influenced him towards producing chillout music.He started to produce electronic music in the chillout genre in 2008, using ancient sounds mixed with the urban beats and deep spheres that he loves to use in his music. In his tracks, he uses Azerbaijani Mugham and its elements with Blaban leaks , which are the main ethnic and folk music of Azerbaijan.



The main tracks in his career were impressive and strong collaborations with vocalists like Mel Amy and Juliet Lyons . With the Juliet "Together" and "Without your love" singles were released progressive trance ,Dub and chill out remix together with remixes of the big names of the Progressive Trance music as Morvan Mor and Bilal El Aly . Those relises were supported by the big names as - Paul Van Dyke , M.I.K.E., Giuseppe Ottaviani, Dimension, Reconceal, DJ FEEL, Manuel Le Saux, Las Salinas, Snatt & Vix, Suzy Solar Fan Page, Cold Rush, Tjerk Coers .

Where are you from?
Im from Azerbaijan republic , Sheki town which has got beautiful nature and ancient history :) Currently living in Baku city which is the capital


How old were you when you first got into the music scene? What got you started in music?

My first big scene performance was in Baku when I was 15. It was scene with 2200 audience. That time I played piano and sung the songs which I have composed which name was titled LOVE. You know in that age most guys fall in love . :))))))) I really was so excited cause it was the one of the main stages in my country . But i started music when i was 8 years old when i went to music school .


What were your ambitions when you first started? What are your goals now.
My ambitions and goals didnt changed from start till now. I just want people to listen to my music which I express my feelings and my view about this world trhough.



What are your some of your good and bad traits as an artist?
I dont write tracks and dont use tricks to get the really commercial music. Music for me is something spiritual. It is for this reason that my music is mainly underground. But this year I started to make some commercial stuff.


What genre do you feel you are?
I love progressive and deep house. also trance and chill out. In all those genres I have released tracks and singles. But I feel that my style is chillout.


Why did you pick that particular style?
I can show all my feelings with chill out music.

Which DJ is the best that you've seen live?
I love DeadMou5. Also like KSHMR works and Dj ing.


What are the plans for the rest of the year music wise?
I am planning to start Djing. As im just a producer who makes the tracks right now. So the aim of next year to start Djing and go finally to the events or places where I have been asked to come several times.


Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern?
You know I like both of them cause all are able to give insperation . Mood and place are also the main and important things too.

I listen to Indie pop and rock .. I love the works of Mitski , Amber Arcades and Sarah Blasko.

I do it all time in my studio and making new sounds and trying to get my own sound .

Considering the major changes in todays music industry in the digital world
and the rise in home studios/DIY independent artists.
What do you think is the future of the music industry? Is this good or bad in your view?
I think its good for the producers. Now musicians can start working in their home and practice more and more till they get to the professional studio.

How would you describe your sound in one sentence?
My sound is my life and my feelings.


What is your favorite plugins ?
I use Waves plugins and love them. Those guys from Waves they are providing real analog daw FX to home studio.

What is your favorite DAW?
Its Fl Studio which with all my music is getting life and soul.

Do you mix and master your tracks on you own.
Yes i do mixing on my own . Some tracks i did mastering on my owm too but some important projects im sending to mastering engineer to get the analoq daw effect. I love how the analog sounds with its noises and so.

Whats your up coming project that you re working currently ?
Currently im working on the House track which vocal part is from Juliet Lyons. Its light house track which i composed and lyrics we written together with Juliet Lyons. Hope that crowd will enjoy this track when we will release it .
